Mother Theresa

was a really good woman.  Our little community has and continues to be shaped by her prayers and quotes.

Steve returned to this one often,

"Love has a hem to her garment
that reaches the very dust.
It sweeps the stains from the streets and lanes
and because it can, it must."

We had just found this one sometime when we knew he was sick.  It didn't really strike me then but in his absence, and because i am so unsure of myself these days, it has become one that i pray daily.  Mother Theresa said that praying makes our hearts large enough to contain God's gift of Himself:

  • Deliver me, O Jesus,
From the desire of being loved,
From the desire of being extolled,
From the desire to being honored,
From the desire of being praised,
From the desire of being preferred,
From the desire of being consulted,
From the desire of being approved,
From the desire of being popular,
From the fear of being humiliated,
From the fear of being despised,
From the fear of suffering rebukes,
From the fear of being calumniated,
From the fear of being forgotten,
From the fear of being wronged,
From the fear of being ridiculed,
From the fear of being suspected.
    Amen.
